Mbira Spirit gives Country Classics, Gospel, Blues, Reggae, some Giddy-Up with their fantastic harmonies, vibrant dancing and joyful presence! Mbira Spirit’s high energy performance and African influence energizes and inspires audiences.
Mbira Spirit, Tafadzwa and Amy, bring the most distinguished rhythms and harmonies of Zimbabwe to North America’s all time favourites and in so many genres! They also bring traditional roots songs from Zimbabwe and write their own music. Together they blend their cultures and musical experiences to create a most magical and special performance that has audiences of all ages clapping, dancing, and embracing the message of peace, love and harmony.
Tafadzwa and Amy Matamba are a unique and dynamic duo that represent and are at the heart of Mbira Spirit. They perform as a duo or with a full band.
Tafadzwa Matamba is an artist, musician, film producer, actor, business man, farmer, educator, cultural ambassador, and inclusive leader originally from Zimbabwe. He came to Canada as a performing artist in 2012 touring schools, universities, community events and more sharing the culture and traditions of Zimbabwe through dance, drum, story telling and mbira music.
Amy Matamba is an artist, musician, film producer, actor, teacher, farmer, business woman, cultural ambassador and inclusive leader from Vancouver Island. Amy extensively studied traditional Zimbabwean music (marimba, mbira, dance, drum, hosho, shona language, culture) for 8 years before travelling to Zimbabwe for a Cultural Tour organized by Tafadzwa. After a successful tour, Amy then organized a Vancouver Island tour for Tafadzwa and from there they established the musical duo, Mbira Spirit.
